On Learning to Heal

On Learning to Heal:

or, What Medicine Doesn't Know

(Critical Global Health: Evidence, Efficacy, Ethnography)

At thirteen, Ed Cohen was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease—a chronic, incurable condition that nearly killed him in his early twenties. At his diagnosis, his doctors told him that the best he could hope for would be periods of remission. Unfortunately, doctors never mentioned healing as a possibility. In On Learning to Heal, Cohen draws on fifty years of living with Crohn’s to consider how Western medicine’s turn from an “art of healing” toward a “science of medicine” deeply affects both medical practitioners and their patients. He demonstrates that although medicine can now offer many seemingly miraculous therapies, medicine is not and has never been the only way to enhance healing. Exploring his own path to healing, he argues that learning to heal requires us to desire and value healing as a vital possibility. With this book, Cohen advocates reviving healing’s role for all those whose lives are touched by illness.

L.A. Dreams

L.A. Dreams

** The characters have that gritty feel of bands like Motley Crue and Aerosmith but with a modern-day Maroon 5 feel.

L.A. Dreams has quickly become one of my favorites that I have read so far this year. ReadersFavorite.com

** Choosing what I loved the most about this book is a difficult decision to make. This is because I literally loved every bit of it. OnlineBookClub.org

It’s the 1993 L.A. music scene, complete with drugs, parties, alcohol and women, but twenty-seven-year-old Cory Scott is only interested in one thing. The success of his band Suicide King. His best friend died trying to make it happen and Cory will stop at nothing to make their rock star dream a reality. When infamous music legend Alexandra Blake agrees to produce their debut album, all Cory has to do is keep the band together and keep her interested in them long enough to finish the album. Simple enough. Until he meets Alexandra. With one glance at her everything else becomes secondary. Cory becomes so self-absorbed that his bandmates are barely a thought. Jesse’s girlfriend is cheating on him, and Trent’s drug use is bordering on dangerous, but Cory's focus on Alexandra is all-consuming. The deeper he falls for her-and she falls for him-the more torn Cory becomes. When his world comes crashing down will Cory be forced to choose between the bandmates who depend on him, the music he thought he was there for, and the woman he needs more than air in his lungs?

L.A. DREAMS is about the bonds of friendship, falling in love, and following your dreams.

Your Character Is Your Crown

YOUR CHARACTER IS YOUR CROWN: CHARACTER IS DESTINY

Character is a major thought that carries a ton of implications to mind. As people, we invest a great deal of energy pondering how character is assembled and estimated. Everybody attempts to characterize this thing called Character. It's not hard. Nobody works deliberately on their personality and this is a misstep. Character is making the right decision while no one's looking.

Spending time and energy dealing with our strengths and shortcomings is time very well spent! Building character is very important. Individuals develop through experience if they meet life sincerely and fearlessly, for example, your habitual contemplations, such additions will be the character of your psyche; for the spirit is colored by the thoughts. This is how a character is built because character is not something you were brought into the world with and can't change, similar to your thumbprints. It's something you weren't brought into the world with and should get a sense of responsibility with framing.

A character can't be created effortlessly and calmly. Always act certainly, communicate your thoughts, have confidence in yourself, and don't go out and search for a fruitful character and copy it. A great character is a higher priority than riches, good looks, popularity, and even schooling. These things don't ensure satisfaction and frequently they become obstructions to developing a good character. Nothing about the character is genetic. Everybody, paying little heed to the social foundation, monetary status, race, or gender, enter the world with an equivalent chance to turn into an individual incredible or unimportant person

Just through the experience of suffering and trials could the spirit at any point be strengthened, desire inspired, and achievement accomplished. Life is a series of happenstances, every last one of which makes us greater, even though occasionally understanding this is hard. For the survival in this world, building a foster character is, we should discover that the difficulties and laments which we persevere through help us in our walk ahead.

Our capacity to deal with life's difficulties is a proportion of our solidarity of character. Our disposition should be visible in our personality, how we approach things, by the books we peruse, the company we keep, the acclaim we give, by our dress, by our preferences, by our aversions, the narratives we tell, by our step, by the idea of our vision, by the appearance of our home, of our chamber; for no good reason on earth is lone however everything hath affinities limitless. The human significance doesn't lie in riches or influence, yet in character and goodness. Individuals are simply individuals, and all individuals have flaws and deficiencies, however, we all are brought into the world with fundamental goodness.

The development and contributing factors to a great character are the persistent cycles of figuring out the components and activities of affection. These components guide sympathy, integrity, and ways of behaving, and activities that rise above living just for self. Your character is your Crown, foster your character to keep your crown higher because you are an individual of integrity.
